ABOUT HOLY THURSDAY
Holy Thursday, also known as Maundy Thursday, is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ before he was arrested and crucified. It was at this supper that the sacrament of the Eucharist was first celebrated. Holy Thursday is also associated with foot-washing. The Priest will wash the feet of 12 parishioners in imitation of the Last Supper. Jesus humbled himself before the apostles by washing their feet as an example of the humility and service he wished them to share with others. At the conclusion of the Mass, the faithful are invited to continue Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the night, just as the disciples were invited to stay up with the Lord during His agony in the garden before His betrayal by Judas. After Holy Thursday, no Mass will be celebrated again in the Church until the Easter Vigil celebrates and proclaims the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Liturgical Colour for Holy Thursday is white which symbolises the light, joy and purity of Christ. |
